Overview

The Source of Hope is seeking a persuasive and mission-driven Grant Writer Emerging Professional to help secure funding that supports our community programs. This role is ideal for students with strong writing, research, and communication skills who enjoy storytelling and strategy. The Grant Writer will assist in researching grant opportunities, developing proposals, and tracking submissions that sustain The Source of Hope’s ongoing initiatives.

This position offers valuable experience in grant writing, nonprofit fundraising, and donor relations—perfect for students interested in communications, business, or nonprofit leadership.

Compensation

This is an unpaid Emerging Professional internship providing mentorship and hands-on experience in nonprofit funding and development.

Schedule

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Thursday: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
  • Monthly Volunteering Event: Fourth Saturday, 6:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Up to 20 hours per week

Emerging Professional Program

The Source of Hope’s Emerging Professional Program empowers college students and young adults to gain practical, real-world experience through active involvement in leadership and service. Participants are mentored in developing professional communication, research, and problem-solving skills while contributing to meaningful community work.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Proficient in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interest in nonprofit work, fundraising, or communications
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Collaborative and respectful team player

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Currently enrolled in college, pursuing or interested in Communications, English, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related fields
  • Prior writing, research, or proposal experience is a plus, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Research potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government entities
  • Draft and edit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
  • Track deadlines, submissions, and follow-ups using organizational tools
  • Collaborate with program leads to gather data, success stories, and impact metrics
  • Assist in preparing budgets and narratives for funding applications
  • Maintain organized digital records of grants, donors, and correspondence
  • Help identify creative funding sources and partnership opportunities
  • Participate in the Serving Hope community event every 4th Saturday (6 AM – 1 PM)
