Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at the Hormel Institute

We are excited to announce that Gustavus has partnered with the Hormel Institute, and thanks to generous donors, to secure three SURE internship positions specific for Gustavus students. The Hormel SURE program website can be found here. The SURE program runs from Tuesday, May 27, 2025 – Friday, August 1, 2025.

SURE Admission Requirements

You can apply for the SURE program if you:

Required Qualifications

  • Registered undergraduate student at a four-year college or university
  • Pursuing a science related undergraduate degree at a four-year college or University.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Students entering their Junior or Senior year of undergraduate studies.
  • 3.0 minimum GPA.
  • Previous coursework or lab experiences in Chemistry and/or Biology.
  • Community involvement & leadership experience.
  • Preference is given to applicants entering their Junior or Senior year of undergraduate studies.

  • 2 letters of recommendation from college professors, mentors or supervisors (upload them directly to application site)
  • Personal essay; describing your academic and career goals, interest in science education or  health/medical research, how you will benefit from the SURE internship program, what you want to learn or accomplish from this program, any research experience you have had, if applicable, and any personal challenges you have faced that have influenced your life and/or academic career. (1 page maximum)

Student positions are a form of financial support while pursuing an education at the University of Minnesota.
