Shadowing experience at the Skin Clinic Medspa in North Mankato, MN

I obtained a shadowing experience through the Gustavus Career Development Center, then Heidi Hermel (Gustavus Alumni) offered me a job to work there during the summer!
3. Tell us more about your accomplishment.
I was an aesthetic assistant at the Skin Clinic Medspa in Mankato, MN. The Skin Clinic is a medical aesthetic and wellness spa.
4. Who were some of the people who helped you most at Gustavus to get this opportunity? What did you learn from them?
Julie Rudolf – I learned to never hesitate to reach out! Also, don’t interpret the way people contact you over text or email as their personality in person. Don’t overthink it!
5. How did the Engaged Learning Funds help you be able to complete this experience?
It helped support me through the scrubs, gas, housing, and food I had to buy while working this past summer.
6. How have you applied things you’ve learned here at Gustavus to this opportunity? (i.e., Career & Self Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology)
I learned at Gustavus how to reach out to others, confidence, self-development, communication, and critical thinking that I have all applied to my experience at the Skin Clinic. The nursing program at Gustavus has helped me understand the importance of asking “why?” to different things. Challenging different ideas and finding the root cause/causes of problems to get the full understanding is essential for growth and accomplishment. Being able to help others achieve their goals is something I’m passionate about, and this job allows me to fulfill that.
