What was/is your career opportunity/experience (i.e. internship, shadowing experience, research)?
I will attend The Ohio Stat University Midwestern Slavic Conference where I will present my research, which gained me automatic entrance for my thesis essay competition in May 2025.
How did you get the opportunity/experience? What steps did you take to achieve this?
The Director of Eastern European Studies program familiarized me with this opportunity and suggested I take my capstone project that I have been working on to present it at the conference.
Tell us more about your accomplishment.
The Ohio State University Midwestern Slavic Conference had over 100 submissions entered this year, with a majority who were accepted being graduate and PHD students along side researchers and PHD candidates for the topic of “Authenticity”. Individuals submitted their work based on the topic and got selected based on their work progress, competency, relevance, etc. I was one of the 10 undergraduate students accepted, and 1 of the 4 in the undergraduate poster competition. One of the judges was a faculty member from Harvard and one from University of Kentucky.
Who were some of the people who helped you most at Gustavus to get this opportunity? What did you learn from them?
Dr. Annalise Rivas and other peers and staff who supported me to apply.
How did the Engaged Learning Funds help you be able to complete this experience?
I was able to cover the flight and hotel expenses which were over the roof in price, thank you Career Office!!!
How have you applied things you’ve learned here at Gustavus to this opportunity? (i.e., Career & Self Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology)
I’ve applied my presentation, listening, and curiosity skills into this experience and I have to say I have made the most of it!
