Welcome to Gustavus Adolphus College’s Student Stories Series!
Intern with the St. Peter Good Neighbor Diversity Council
Major: Geology & Peace Studies
What was/is your career opportunity/experience (i.e. internship, shadowing experience, research)?
I obtained an internship with the St. Peter Good Neighbor Diversity Council.
How did you get the opportunity/experience? What steps did you take to achieve this?
I was given Dr. Bill Nelsen’s contact information through the Center for Career Development, and reached out to him! Bill serves as the council’s Co-President.
Tell us more about your accomplishment (include title, role, location, program, etc.)
I am the intern for the whole council, so am helping in every possible way, and helping so many people.
Who were some of the people who helped you most at Gustavus to get this opportunity? What did you learn from them?
I am really thankful for Mimi Gerstbuer, she helped me through every step!
How did the Engaged Learning Funds help you be able to complete this experience?
I am truly greatful for the Engaged Learning Fund, without it I would not be able to have this opportunity! The fund has allowed me to put all of my attention, time, and effort into this special cause, rather than splitting my time with a part time job to be able to make it financially.
How have you applied things you’ve learned here at Gustavus to this opportunity? (i.e., Career & Self Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, Technology)
I have applied so many topics that I have learned at my time at Gustavus. Many peace studies topics have been very helpful to have a previous understanding so I am able to recognize them happening in front of me!
