Welcome to Gustavus Adolphus College’s Student Stories Series!

Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota

Major: Psychology and Communications

What was/is your career opportunity/experience?

This summer I worked as a research assistant in a research lab in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. I helped Dr. Michael Bronstein with various tasks in his lab including data collection, reviewing research abstracts, presenting research articles, and participating in research meetings.

Why did you choose Gustavus?

I chose Gustavus because after attending a large urban high school, I was drawn to the small class sizes and individualized attention from professors. Also, as a student athlete, I appreciated the team culture when I visited campus.

How did Career Development/Office of Health Professions assist you?

The staff in the Center for Career Development have been very helpful by offering guidance resources and connecting me with people in perspective fields. In addition, as a double major, my advisors and professors in communications and psychology are always willing to meet with me to help me map out not only my course work, but also with my plans for after graduation.

What advice would you give to other students, or prospective students?

I would tell prospective students that one of the great things about Gustavus is that professors and advisors are always willing to help you with your success, so it is important to reach out to them with any questions you have.

Why do you think a prospective student should consider Gustavus?

From my swim coaches to my professors, everyone cares about my success and wellbeing. Gustavus offers this tight knit community through small class sizes and continuous support for all students.
