Gustavus Adolphus College: Where Success Stories Begin
Tax Consultant, Deloitte
Major: Public Accounting
Tell us more about your accomplishment.
I landed a full time position as a Tax Consultant at Deloitte.
How did you get the opportunity/experience?
First, I Participated in the Deloitte Audit Case Competition (accounting competition between private colleges around Minnesota. A team of Gustavus accounting students working together to prepare a presentation and present it to people at Deloitte). That helped me to get to know more people that work at Deloitte, establish some connections and make a good impression. Then, I created a resume and applied for a tax internship during my sophomore year at Gustavus. Next, after receiving an invitation to interview, I took time to prepare for an interview and sett up mock interviews in the Center for Career Development. Finally, during the internship, I showed a positive attitude and showed that I wanted to learn as much as possible while I was there. Being organized, communicative, and willing to learn were the three main characteristics that I noticed to be valued by the employer.

I worked the following internships:
1. Discovery Tax Intern II during the Summer after my sophomore year.
2. Tax Intern during the Summer after my Junior year.
In addition to that, I accepted a full-time position as a Tax Consultant I starting in July 2025.
Both of my internships were in the Deloitte Minneapolis office, and that is where I will start my career.
How did Career Development/Office of Health Professions assist you?
Career Development helped me to create an organized and efficient resume. They also gave me a list of internships and opportunities that would be worth applying for. Finally, they helped me to prepare for my interviews, giving me resources, and providing me practice ones to make me feel more confident and comfortable.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience working with Career Development?
Use this resource to your advantage. You are in college for about 4 years. Your career, however, will last for a great deal of your lifetime. It is a good idea to start the first steps when you are still in college.
